As an instance of the unsatisfactory state of the communication between Melbourne and Dunedin, we give below several items of in telligence which have not previously reached us, and which are extracts from the Ijiobart Town Mercury, extracted by that paper from the telegraphic intelligence ,of the Sydney Morning Hera Id of November 2nd. We have papers from Melbourne of much later date, but our files are incomplete.
The Election Committee pronounced Mr. Chapman not duly elected for Castiemaine ; and Mr. Smith, the late "Warden, as duly elected. Escorts have brought 29,000 ounces. Saunders was hanged for the outrage at Keilor : he made no confession of other crimes excepting that for which he was executed. On the motion of Mr. Pyke, supported by the Cabinet, an address to the Queen was agreed to, praying for the establishment of a Mint. Markets very quiet. Great dissatisfaction felt at Ministerial finances. Wharfage duties are not likely to be agreed to. The Pharamoud brings Mauritius news to 27th September. The King of Madagascar had agreed to receive ambassadors from France and England to ncgoeiate treaty of commerce.
