THE REPORTED DIGGINGS AT WAIPORI.
A further report has been received by the Commissioner of Police relative to the reported diggings on the Waipori. The report is from one of the mounted constables who was sent up to ascertain the truth of the rumours, and he states that he met one of the parties who are at work in the place alluded to, who showed him a sample weighing 1 oz. 11 dwts. which the}' had obtained in five days, working with a tin dish. The gold is of a nuggety character, the sinking from 18 inches to 3 feet deep, and the bottom a kind of rock of a red colour. The ground is of such a patchy kind that in one case they sank a hole and obtained 3 dwts. in one dish, but were unable to obtain even the colour anywhere in the neighbourhood. They declined to indicate the precise spot where the diggings were, but said they were 10 or 11 mites from the main road in a westerly direction from, the Upper Waipori Accommodation House, on a creek running out ox the Lammermoor Kanges.
