WIRTH'S CIRCUS.
-- Dating back to very early times there has existed 1 for the people generally a strange fascination in a circus. Such organisations have altered in detail, but in their main, essentials they yet remain the same-7-the same zoo, the same clowns, the same' horses and equestrian feats, the same acrobats and' tumblers. It is all a matter o£ degree. They all are circuses, but some are attractive, others almost repulsive. The Messrs Wirth Bros, have gained a reputation for giving us the formerand last night they, put on a most entertaining programme. During the afternoon the animals had been on show, the lion roared, the tiger spat, and the new giraffe, of which the management is justly proud, stretched his already long neck. In the evening the bill of fare was more diversified and amusing, if perhaps hardly so instructive. The equestrian acts were clever—that's all the uninitiated, who doesn't appreciate their difficulties can say about them; then in quick succession came wonderful acts on the Roman rings, trapeze work of breathless interest, equilibrist feat 6, balancing and contorting,. the very clever Gammon brothers, who appeared to do anything in the way of acrobatic acts, and who had the assistance of two clever dogs; and amazing feats of strength. Besides these were the pretty serpentine dance, which only lacked proper lighting to make it most attractive, and numberless clown and dummy performances of which the humor was far above the usual standard. All the artists are from the best Continental theatres, and every turn was done by a specialist in his ovs;n line.
