WAIMATE NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The following cases were heard before Mr T. Hutcheson, S.M. : —Police Case.—, George Thomas, who had beeii wanted since October last, was brought before the Court, charged with a breach of his probation order, and remanded, on the application of the Police, to Christchurch. —Civil Cases.— Judgment by default was given in the following undefended cases: — Wall and Rickman v. A. and D. M'Donaid, claim £3 2s 9d, costs ss. Mr Perry for nlaintiffs. C. Bobye" v. A. and D. M'Donaid, claim £lO, costs Bs. C. Tomlin v. same, claim £l3 7s, costs 15s. A Jones and Co. v. Wm. Lane, claim 16s, costs ss. J. P. Smith v. J. Hendry, claim £6 12s, costs £1 3s 6d. Mr Hamilton for plaintiff. G. J. Shackleton v. R. Pascoe, claim £1 2s 2d. Defendant paid 10s into Court. Judgment for 12s 2s and costs 6s. Wm. Quinn v. M. Young, claim £6. Judgment by consent for £3, with costs 2s. Mr Middleton for plaintiff, -Mr Perry for defendant. J. Faloon v. M. Colloty, claim £1 4s 6d, rent and possession of tenement. Judgment for amount claimed, with costs 16s, and order to defendant to give up possession ; warrant to be suspended for three days. W. J. Williams v. 0. M'Kee, claim | £5 2s Id. Mr Middleton for plaintiff, Mr Perry for defendant. Defendant counterclaimed for £2 19s 6d, plaintiff having left without giving sufficient, notice. Judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed, with £3 2s costs. On the counter-claim the magistrate held that M'Kee was entitled to one week's notice, and entered judgment for £1 7s 6d, amount of one week's wages, with costs 116. RIFLE SHOOTING. On Thursday a team of 12 men of the Waimate Rifles, firing for the South Canterbury Battalion Staff Shield, put on the very high score of 1160, individual scores ranging from 102 to 90. The local men claim the score to be a record for the Dominion. Whether or not a record, it is sufficiently high to win the shield, the other scores being: Timaru Port Guards 1057, Timaru Rifles 1045, Timaru City Rifles 1022.
