A voung woman named May I Lillet, with several aliases, charged with obtaining £SO bv false pretences from Walter Clifford, a'pi.vcared before the Court today. A man somewhat answering the description of the craped convict M'Xcil visited the settlers at Ilokio beach on Friday. A voung married woman living apart Irom 'her husband, named Nelly Minchiii, or I'liruip, formerly employed as a har-m-lid. but latterly'living alone and performing secretarial duties, committed suicide last night by shooting herself. Court- to-day .Margaret MacAulil'fc. a boarding-house keeper, pleaded guilty to a charge of sly grogselling, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. Frank Poll', of the Carriers' Arms Hotel, who did not appear, also got three months'. lioth had served previous sentences. The lion. Thomas .Mackenzie reached Te Anau this morning, after ten days spent in the West Coast- SonndK mid travelling overland from Mi]ford Sound. The tracks are in good order, and there aie indications that the .wapiti are spreading. Jlr Mackenzie will reach Invcrcargill to-morrow, and will leave immediately for Uui.edin.
