OTAGO EDUCATION BOARD.
By Telegraph. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Dunedin, January 28. At the meeting of the Education Board, The secretary of the Kokoamo Committee wrote that his committee was prepared to subsidise the salary of a teacher so that it would not 'be less than. £IOO per year.—lt was decided that the committee's offer be accepted. Mr A. Waters (on behalf of the parents of children at Bortons) urged the erection of a school in his district in preference to the removal of the Kokoamo School. There were 21 children in the district requiring tuition, and these could not journey to school by train during the winter months.—Consideration of the matter was held over pending the receipt of a formal report on the subject from the special' committee set up to inquire into the matter.
The settlers of Steward Settlement asked that the floor of the pchoolhonsc be made level. —It was resolved that tho Board, could not see its way to grant the request. It was decided that the doors at the Totara. schoolhonso be altered l in accordance with the committee's request. At to-day's meeting of the Board the following resignations were acoepted: — Jane O. Scott, sole teacher, Tokarahi: I. C. Allan, third assistant Oamaru North.
The Hons. T. Fergus and T. Mackenzie were appointed to represent the Board on the Ota go High School Board, and Mr Jas. Mitchell was appointed to represent the Board on the Waitaki Boys' High School Board.
