Pahiatua, January 27. The annual meeting of the Pahiatua Racing Club was opened to-day in glorious weather. There was a large attendance of visitors, and the course was in very good order. The amount put through the totalisators was £6238, l>eing £584 less than on the first day last year. Twelve bookmakers were licensed, the fees amounting to £135. Results : Handicap Hack Hurdles, of 60 sovs. One mile and three-quarters.—Maidi, 10.5, 1; Don Carlos, 11.6, 2; Whetakura, 10.11, 3. Also started: Narcotic 10.13, Coy 10.11, Snow Star (late Joe Ward) 9.8, Trustee '9.0. At the first hurdle Coy lost his rider (C. 0"'Xeill), who was badly shaken. Won by 10 lengths, a length between second and third. Time, 3min 20 2-sth sec.
