Brisbane, December 29. - A destructive fire occurred last night at the wharves at Petrie's Bight, on the Brisbane river. The fire broke-out at night, and raged for some time, doing considerable damage to property, though the destruction was not so great as it was first feared it would be. The actual extent of the loss is. not yet known. The insurances comprise L2OOO in the South British, half of which is re-insured with the National and Colonial of New Zealand ; also, LBQO in the Standard and L3OQ in the National.
