The sugar market is excited owing to advices from London and Paris, which state that the bept-root crop is small, being 25s higher. : December 23.

The yacht Taniwaha, from Auckland, has been sighted off "Wilson's Promontory. The Ministerialists having urged the matter, the Government has consented to an adjournment of Parliament until the 15th February. The Intercolonial Conference will accordingly meet, as arr&ng3d, on the 13th January, at Sydney. A three days' pedestrian tournapient was commenced here last night.

The official awards for beer at the Exhibition have been published. The awards, announced by telegram on the 12 th inst. are correct, but the following are additions —For porter, in bulk, Erenfried second ; for bottled porter, Erenfreid second; for bottled ales, Crowe, Christ-church, Erenfreid, and Strachan take thirds; for brown ales, Manning takes first; Hargan, of Dunedin, Thomson, of Oamaru, and M'Taggart, of Palmerston, take seconds; and Cochi'ane, of Dunedin, third.
