In the Legislative Council last night the report of the Select Committee on the Totalisator Bill, . which favored legislation of the instrument, was brought up, and a resolution embodying the report of the Committee was put to the House, but was rejected. A firm of merchants (agents for Messrs. Clayton and Shuttleworth, the well-known agricultural implement makers, England), against whom proceedings were taken for passing false invoices, have paid the fine of LIOOO to the Customs.
