The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is LI 4,000,000. New Zealand five per cent, debentures, 1880 loan, are quoted at 107, and five per cent. 10-40 loan at 103. At the wool sale to-day 4100 bales were offered. There was wore enquiry, but the demand was principally speculative. 10,000 bales have been withdrawn from sale since the opening of the auction, December 10. The Irish League has now instituted Courts for the settlement of disputes between landlords and tenants on the land question. ■ Constantinople, Pep- 1QThe Porte has addressed a circular note to the Powers calling upon them to restrain Greece from proceeding with the increase of her armaments, and to ask her if she will accept the compromise proposed in October last, namely that the territory to the south of Janinia and Loiissa should be ceded, but not those towns themselves. The Porte adds that if Greece replies in the negative, a rupture must ensue. Calcutta, December 10. Latest telegrams from Allahabad report that all the feverish symptoms have npw left the Marquis of Ripon, but that he remains in a very weak condition.

The cricket match between the Australians, lately returned from England, and the "Victorian representative eleven was commenced to-day. .The latter went first to the wickets, and were all disposed of for 168 runs.
