CHRIsTCHURCH GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT. (Prom the Canterbury Times.) The business of the past week in the grain market has partaken much of the same character as the preceding. The feeling continues one of extreme quietness, and transactions have been on a meagre scale. Wheat.—Values of wheat stand at the quotations of last week —4s 3<l to 4s 4d with very little dofng. The few parcels brought forward found buyers among the millera at the above rates. Inferior quality is selling at 3s 6d to 3a 10d. Feed samples are rather dull of sale, though several small lines of thi3 description are reported as having been disposed ot at Is Sd to 2s 6d, _ Oata.—Business in this grain has not improved, and the market is still characterised by a want of vitality. Best milling sorts ere quoted at Is Cd to Is Bd, and feed parcels at Is 3d to Is sd. .... - t. Miles Bros, and Co.'s colonial produce report, dated London, October 22nd: — WOOL. There is little change to report since our last advices. Not much business has been done, but there have been some private sales, which, though small, give indications of somewhat greater activity in the Home manufacturing districts. Continental consumption continues normal, bat the demand from that quarter is slightly easier. The Antwerp series of sales of River Plate wools opened on the 19th instant with a numerous attendance of buyers, but the competition was not very brisk. The new arrivals for November comprise Bales. New South Wales and Queensland 6,050 Victoria 5,301 South Australia 1,941 Western Australia 211 Tasmania 314 New Zealand 11,494 Cape ... ... --- --- 31,02G Total 59,337 There will also be 35,000 bales in addition, which were held over from last sales. It is expected that there will be about 120,000 bales on hand by the time the next sales commence. WHEAT AND FLOUT.. Winter seems to have set in early, heavy snow having fallen throughout Great Britain —a very unusual circumstance at so early _ a period. Since our last, slight reaction in values has taken place in the wheat market; but it is in so sensitive a condition that prices vary almost every market day, and on the whole prices keep steadily to previous quotations. Shipments from Atlantic ports to the Continent are on a large scale, owing to the deficient harvest in Germany and Russia, and the failure of rye. English wheat comes forward more freely, bat samples are generally inferior in quality. Imports of ISew Zealand wheat have been smaller than was expected, and fine parcels meet with ready sale, while inferior are difficult to move. oat 3 sell slowly at previous rates. Flour is in fair demand, and we hear that increased shipments are likely to come forward from Australia. Victorian wheat is worth 4Ss to 51a; New Zealand, long berried, 48s to 535; fair average, 46s to 4Ss; and inferior, 41s to 45s per 4961b. Australian flour, superfine, 34s to 35s ; New Zealand, 31s to 343 per 2SOlb. oat 3, fine, 2Sa to 34s ; and common feed, 24s to 27s per imperial quarter. TAIXOW A>~D HIDES. The tallow market has been steady since our last advices. The stock in importers' bands is now only about 7400 casks, the amounts disposed of at late sales having been large. To-day's sales passed off with good demand. Beef advanced Cd per cwt; mutton sold very irregularly; the former realised 32s Cd to 33s 6d, and the latter 33s fid to 36s per cwt.
