Tiie public will to-morrow be afforded an opportunity of witnessing in the Volunteer Hall the Spring Flower Show of the North Otago Horticultural Society. There is every reason to believe that this year's exhibition will be fully up to the standard of excellence of the Society's previous efforts. The, season has been somewhat dry, but that has mainly had the effect of hastening outdoor plants towards maturity. We may fore expect that the display -yrill be quite as varied, if not more varied, than usual. The most attractive feature of to-morrow's exhibition, however, will probably be in the department of pot plants. The florists of the district, both professional and amateur, have assiduously endeavored to attain excellence in greenhouse culture, and the public will shortly have an opportunity of judging how far they have succeeded. We venture to express an opinion that they will be agreeably surprised at the strides that have been made iii this direction, if those who are in a position to exhibit rarities come up to the scratch. In pelargoniums, for instance, we are in a position to state that it is quite possible to aggregate an assortment that would produce the most felicitous effects upon the exhibition and the public mind. We have segn specimens of this florists' flower in Oamaru that excel any others of the kind that we have seen in the Colony. We are informed that entries should be sent in to the Secretary at Mr. Falconer's at the earliest possible moment, and that any exhibits sent in after 10 o'clock to-morrow morning will not be permitted to compete, although they may be plaoed on exhibition, The enjoyment of the proceedings will be greatly enhanced by the performance of selections by the Bifles' Baud, which has been engaged for the occasion. The Society has left no stone unturned to make tlje exhibition a successful and enjoyable one, aud it now remains for the public to do the rest. That they will, as usual, be cordially responsive, we have no reason to doubt.
