The local manufacturers met last evening to consider the establishment of a co? operative store for the sale of their goods. The following were represented Cabi-net-makers, portmanteau-makers, metal workers, shoe-makers, cordial manufacturers, varnish-makers, brush-makers, and others. It was estimated that the expenses of a co-operative store in a main street would be 10 per cent, commission on the retail price, and 7J per cent, on the wholesale, The meeting then adjourned. Lieut. Bowen, who commanded H.M.S. Sandfly, and was killed, as reported ,in Reuter's telegrams, was appointed from H.M.S. Danse while in Auckland to succeed Lieut. Home, appointed Sergeant-at-Arms, at Auckland. Tattersall's Club has been recognised by the Racing Club. Gold has been struck in Waitoki Creek, three miles north of Te Aroha. WANGANUI. . December J.
