Arrangements are completed for the Australian cricketers trip, as under ;—lt is to commence about January 11, with a two days' match at Invercargill. They ; will then spend three days at Dunedin, one day at Oamaru, one day at Timaru, three days at Christchurch, three days at Wellington, two at Napier, three at Auckland, and if time permits two at Wanganui. The team's stay in New Zealand will extend over five weeks, Messrs, Cargills, Gibbs, and Co. have received telegraphic advice of the arrival in London on the 27ch of the Otago, 73 days from Port Chalmers. CHRISTCHURCH. November 29. The heavy rain last night will do an immense amount of good to the crops, which were maturing too rapidly. Replying to a deputation of farmers on Saturday, Mr, P. Maxwell, Manager of Railways, said that he had decided to recommend the Government to make a reduction of lOd per ton on the carriage of grain, which would leave the rates rather higher than under the old tariff, but not excessive.
