At .the Magistrate's Court, George* Robinson, who was discharged this morning from, gaol, after sentence for burglary, was charged with having on 24th September last, at Sydney, stolen LIOOO, a gold watch, gold brooch, and other articles," the property of Elizabeth Steward.' Accused was remanded for a week. November 24. At the Resident Magistrate's Court, Adam Leitch. and William Ellison- alias Thompson, on a charge of burglariously entering Messrs." Murray, Roberts, and Co.'s warehouse, and stealing a, quantity of rum, were committed for trial.
DUNEDIN. ' November 24. The ship Dunedin, from London, is at the Heads.
A private telegram received in Dunedin states that the schooner Jane Anderson ha 3 been wrecked at Pafcea. She was owned by Mr. W. A. Gibb, of Dunedin. The Victoria Insurance Company have a risk of L3OO on the hull.
Mr. Fish has placed yesterday's placard in the hands of the police, and offers a reward of LIOO for the discovery of the persons issuing it. The Mayoral contest increases in bitterness.
CHRISTCHURCH. November 23. Government are calling for tenders for a hundred tons of Portland cement, to be manufactured in the Colony of native materials. It is to be delivered at Auckland, Wellington, Christohurch, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Port Chalmers, and Invercargill. . November 24.
The election of Mayor to-day is causing considerable excitement. The candidates are Aaron Ayeva and James Gapes. The general opinion is that the former will be elected.
AUCKLAND. November 23. A number of natives, headed by Te Whiti Patoa, came down and turned Mr. Tole's men off his land, • They were sent away quietly and without injury into Kihikihi, Rewi is absent at Te • Kuiti, and the natives have done this in defiance of him. It is not likely that any disturbance will take place. . November 24. The Bishop of Waiapn, and a number of Church dignitaries, left in the Southern Cross to-day to inaugurate the opening of a Mission Qhuych at Norfolk Island. ' Ah Gee, a Chinaman, attempted to drown himself yesterday, but was rescued, the cause was internperaqcg.
Intelligence has reached Apia, Samoa, that a heavy battle. had takeu place between two parties on the Savau, between two villages inland. More have been killed and wounded than in any previous fight. Bodies of men are marohing from the north-east side, where more fighting will take place.
TIMARU. November 23. Three hundred and eighty feet of the contract of the breakwater is - expected to be completed next week, making nearly 800 feet in all constructed, in the year. The Harbor Board intend before letting another contract to carry out some 50 feet by day work, as, according to the engineer's opinion, it will be cheaper. Vessels drawing 14 feet of water now come loaded inside the breakwater,
NEW PLYMOUTH. November 23. Thirty-two bullock drays were driven into town from Parihaka this morning. The natives have come to New Plymouth to purchase provisions, when they will load up and return again,
MASTERTON. November 24. A fire has broken out in the Masterton Institute, which is now a mas 3 of flames. It is insured in the North British and Mercantle Companies. Later.
The Fire Brigade has managed to gei the fire well under. The building is partially gutted, but about half the value oi the original building will be saved.
