He possesses good sound feet—a very important rfquisitein a sire for producing draught stock. He is short in the back, well ribbed-up, with good quarters and splendid action. He has proved a sure foal-gettsr, and is a splendid worker. Bred by Mr. James Burgess, Southland. Sire, Young Prince of Wales, by Prey's Prince of Wales, by General, by. Sir Walter Scott, by Old Cly de, by Scotland, by Champion, which takes us fully fifty years back amongst the grand old sires of Clydesdale blood in Scotland. Scotland Yet's dam was lirxl by Mr. A. Steele, which was got by the well-known Thane of Clyde, imported by M'Lean, Esq., of Benmore. Thane of Clydr, bred by Thomas Young, E-q., Renfrewshire, Scotland. Fe took several first prizes in Scotland when two and three years old. His dam was the celebrated mare Matchless, never beaten in her day. He also gained the first prize, against all comers, at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show in 1867, being.there for the first time shown in New Zealand. The following year he gained the Gold Medal at the Tokomaiiiro Agricultural and Pastoral Soci-ty'j Grand Show, and was reckoned by competent judges to be the best bred horse in Otago ; also, the Gold Medal at the Clutha. Scotland Yet gained second prize at the Southland Agricultural and' Pastoral Soc ety's Show in 1877 ; and ia IS7B he gained the same Society's first prize, beating a field of seven, at>d he was admitted bj the judges on that occasion to be the best colt bred from the Prince of Wales.
