PUBLIC NOTICES NOTICE. The otago bible and book SOCIETY Have just opened A SHOP IN THAMES-STREET, Next to Mr. Falconer's Seed Warehouse, for the sale of their works. An opportunity will thus be afforded the public of Oamaru and the settlers of the surrounding districts of selecting what they require from the Society's Stock on the most advantageous terms. They also intend to erect a Booth on the Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Grounds during the Show. The stocks at these places will consist of an admirable selection of Books by the most approved authors; also, new works by Professor Geibie, Joseph Cook, Dr. Taylor, and Dr. Parker; Life of Princess Alice, Life of Miss Havergall, &c.; Hymn Books for all denominations, Church Service, and Book of Common Prayer. A large collection of Bibles, comprising Bagster's best Bibles, the Oxford Teacher's Bible, and the British and Foreign Society's Bibles from 9d upwards. Also a choice assortment of Illuminated and Floral Wall Cards, Christmas New Year Cards—cheap. Prize Volumes appropriate for the season. IT IS HEREBY NOTIFIED, in accordance with the Provisions of the Harbors Act, 1878, clause 59, that the following bye-laws will be presented for adoption at a special meeting of the Board, to be held at the Office of the Board on FRIDAY, the 19th day of NOVEMBER 1880, at 11 a.m., T. FORRESTER, Secretary, On and after the Ist day of JANUARY, 1881, the Board's charges at the Port of Oamaru will be as follows, and the several rates and bye-laws hereunder stated will be put in force : CHARGES ON GOODS (Collected by railway with haulage oharges). WHARFAGE ; General Merchandise, 2s per ton ; weight or measurement at option of the Board. Coals, 2s per ton. Timber (native), Bd per hundred superficial feet. Timber (hardwood), 7d per hundred superficial feet. Fencing Posts and Rails, 4s per hundred. Palings, 7d per hundred. Wheat, 10 4-bush. bags to the ton, 2s per ton, Barley, 12 ~ ~ 2s „ Potatoes, 12 „ ~ 2s „ Oats, 14 ~ „ 2s „ Flour, Bran, Pollard, and other Produce, 22001bs to the too, 2a per ton, Wool, 6d per bale. Stone (Oamaru), Id per foot. Slates, 2s per ton. Cattle and Horses, 2s 6d each (Yearlings, half rates). Sheep, 2d each. Pigs, 4d each. Minimum charge for parcels, 2d. Transhipments at wharves or at anchorage, half-ratea. CHARGES TO VESSELS. Port charges, payable half-yearly, 4d per ton register. Removal fee, Id per ton register, minimum charge 10s. Pilotage (charged both inwards and outwards). Sailing vessels, 3d per ton register. Sailing vessels, with tug, 2d per ton register. Steamers, per ton register. The above charges are payable to the Collector of Customs. The following charges are payable to the Harbor Board's Collector: BERTHAGE BATE. Inwards, 5d per ton on cargo landed. Outwards, 3d per ton on cargo shipped. CRANAGE. Inward cargo, fixed charges, 6d per ton. Outward cargo, if required, 6d per ton. Use of coal buckets, 2d per ton. The cranes will be sent to vessels at the request of the masters of vessels, and will while working at such vessels be held to be part of the ship's appliances, and any damage which may occur to the vessels or cranes by faulty slinging, catching on combings or rig' ging, breaking of chains, slings, or from any other cause whatever shall be at the risk of the master or owner of such vessel. The Harbor Board will in no case be responsible for such damage. The Berthage charge on transhipments will be outwards only. Vessels receiving or discharging -cargo at moorings or anchorage, half berthage rates. The west side of Normanby Wharf reserved for steamers. Cargo will be computed as follows : Timber, native, 480 superficial feet to the ton. Timber, hardwood, 320 superficial feet to the ton. Posts and rails, 50 to the ton, Palings, 320 to the ton. Stone (Oamaru), 22 cubic feet to the ton. Wool, 5 bales to the ton. All other goods as per wharfage. WARPS. Vessels at the Wharves will be charged Jd per ton register per day or part of day for the use of warps, Vessels not at the Wharves supplied with warps or other appliances will be charged for the same not exceeding Id per ton register per day for each rope supplied, at the discretion of the Harbor Master. The Harbor Board takes no charge of or responsibility over vessels whilst in the Port of Oamaru. Their security and safety either at anchor or moored alongside any wharf, pier, jetty, or moorings, is at the risk of the master or owner, spd the Board will in no case be answerable for any damage to vessels from any cause whatever, although every care and precaution will be taken by the Board to have the warps and moorings kept in a state of efficiency. Masters or owners of vessels will be charged for any damage to warps caused by the wilful neglect of the masters or any of the crew, BOAT LICENSES, Cargo Boats, Ballast Boats, Tank Boats, and Watermen's Boats, annual lioense fee of 20s each. Master or person in charge of vessels or boats plying for hire within the port, annual license fee, 20s. BOATING AND BALLAST. The Board does not necessarily undertake to supply lighterage or ballast to any vessel, bat will at its discretion endeavor to do so when required, upon notice in writing being given to the Board, in which case the following charges will be made : Boating to or from QUter anchorage, 3s per ton. Boating under shelter of Breakwater, 2s per ton. Ballast delivered at wharf, 4s per ton. Ballast delivered at anchorage, 7s per ton. It is to be distinctly understood that the Board does not hold itself responsible for any damage to cargo from whatever cause arising, nor for any delay that may occur. GUNPOWDER ANCHORAGE, Etc. The following charges are fixed for the transport and storage of Gunpowder and other explosive substances or compounds at the Port of Oamaru s—--8. d, Boating to or from landing place, per keg or package of 251bs 0 6 Minimum charge 10 0 MAGAZINE CHARGES; Receiving, per keg or package of 251bs or under ... ... ... 0 6 Delivering, per keg or paokage of 251bs or under 0 6 Storage, .per keg or package of 251bs or under, per week 0 1 Proportional charge for larger packages.
