His dam was the celebrated mare Matahless, never beaten in her day. Ha also gained the first prize, against all comers, at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show in 1867) being, there for the first time s&own in New Zealand. The following year he gained the Qold Medal at the Tokomaiiiro Agricultural and Pastoral Society'j Grand ?-'how, and was reckoned by competent judges to be the best bred horse in Otago ; also, the Gold Medal at the Clutha.
