® Exoelsior C.C. V. Union C.C. Despite the unfavorable weather on Saturday afternoon, these- Clubs commenced their first contest. As might be supposed, with such a strong wind blowing, accompanied by so much dust, the play was not brilliant. The bowling was of course not up to the usual standard, but the fielding was very good. The Excelsior team first went to the wickets, and put together 73, of which number Cooke, by steady play, made 25, Feuwick 15, and Moore 12. The Union Eleven commenced very poorly, but as the time for drawing the stumps approached, a stand was made, Hartley scoring 18, not out, and Hendry also making a stand. When time was called the score showed 41 for seven wickets. The game will be continued next Saturday, and it is to be hoped that the clubs will secure the services of umpires whose decisions will give greater satisfaction than was evinced on Saturday.
