(PER press association.) WELLINGTON. November o. The Government have completed arrangements with Captain Steele in connection with Messrs. Grant and Foster's block. CHRISTCHURCH. November 6. In a Calcutta sweep on the Jockey Club Handicap last night of the value of L3l 10s. Le Loup was sold for L 5 103, Betrayer for Lo, Hornby, Foul Play, and Marie Antoinette, each for L2. A large number of horses were training on the course this morning. Foul Play and Sir Modred did the best gallop. Fraser's lot, including Lure, LeLoup, and Betrayer, are all in grand form. Redwood's Amy broke down badly. The course is in splendid condition for the races. AUCKLAND. November 5. The burning of the stack of hay of Mr.. Yfallace is supposed to have been quite accidental, and not the act of an incendiary. From circumstances which have since transpired it seems certain that the stack was fired by the son of Mr. Wallace, four years of age. The stack was worth LSO, and was insured for L2O. November 6. The Helen Denny has cleared for London with a cargo valued at L 30,000, principally gum. Major Te Wlieoro, M.H.R., is trying to raise a subscription amongst the natives to send him to England to see the Queen in order to obtain redress of their grievances.
