KAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held yesterday afternoon, there being present—Messrs. Gilchrist (Chairman), Walker, Manning, M'Pherson, Thomson, M'Donald, Collis, Stevenson, and Oliver (Engineer). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved.
It was resolved to communicate with the Minister for Public Works with reference to a public siding in the locality of Taipo Hill. 1
The Waitaki County Council wrote declining to take over the bridge and approaches at Kakanui Mouth. The Chairman and Messrs. Elder and Hedley were appointed to represent the Board at a conference of Road Boards re the Engineer's engagement. The attention of the Board was directed to some dangerous parts of road-line on Kakanui Fiat. The matter was referred to the Engineer, with power to act. A resolution was passed confirming the rate of id. in the £, and the rate-book was signed by the Chairman and Messrs. Elder and M'Pherson. The fixed deposit, which matures on the 6th inst., was ordered to be transferred to the current account. It was resolved to call for tenders for culvert and formation on road between sections 20 and 1 of 30, block 10, Oamaru district. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr. G-. Thorne, jun., stating that provided he gets the consent of the adjoining proprietors, and pays the costs of transfers, the Board will take the necessary steps to have the exchange of roads as applied for by him effected. The tender of Mr. Wallace for formation of road-line to the Totara railway siding was accepted at L 137 18s. A number of accounts having been passed for payment, the Board rose.
