INCH VALLEY.
(FROM OUR OWN" CORRESPONDENT.) The. Government have at, last seen fit to minister to the necessities of the Upper Shag Valley in the matter of the railway, at the formation of which a number of the unemployed have been working during the past week. The men have pitched their tents near the roadside, and up to the present time appear to be a reputable class ; but as they will probably find more profitable work at harvest time, unless there be accessions to their numbers the line cannot be available for the grain season. The slight rains- which fell lately were thankfully : rec&ived, and have benefited the young "crops. 4s far as I am aware, shearing has not yet'been commenced here this year. Religious services up here have been indefinitely suspended, but by the addition of the unemployed to our ordinary population a good field is presented for an
zealous evangelist. Verily, unless the " salt of the earth" bestir themselves, their neighbors and fellows will, in the course of time, lapse into heathenish irreligion, with all it 3 darkness and gloomy horrors. The School Committee have issued lists, and money is being liberally subscribed by the inhabitants of the district for the purpose of buying prizes for the school, children.
