MELBOURNE RACES. (REUTEP.'S TELEGRAM PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Melbourne, November 2, The second day's rapes of the yictorian Racing Club's spring meeting was held to 7 day, at Flemington. The weather was splendid, and there wa3 an immense concourse of spectators, who wore estimated at oyer 100,000. The course, it is believed. has never before been so crowded, The Marquis of Jformanby, Sir William •Jervois, and the Duke of Manchester were present. Twenty horses started fur .this race, which was a capital one. Mata never showed to the front. Progress led for some distance, when Lothair and Grand Flaneur came up at the home turn, the latter winning a splendid race by three-quarters of a length from Progress, Lord Burleigh being third. Lothair, Mart.iudale, and Chester followed. Time—3 min 342 sec. Nauper Tandy was placed third by the judge, but this was found tq be an error.

Grand Flaneur winning the Cup makes it hard on the bookmakers, as he had been largely backed in doubles. Grand Flaneur has never yet been beaten, and his victory torday was very popular.
