Sir,-—Mr. Proctor says ia his advertisement that he approves oi the extract taken from Shelley speaking of a universe without beginning and without end. Now, I would feel obliged if he would tell the public, whether he believes in the God of Christians, Jews, or Rationalists. If the- ! universe be without beginning and without end, then there was no creation, andi if no creation, then Bible religion is a myth; if Bible religion is_ a myth, then Christ is a nonentity* and the Christian religion an unreal worship, without foundation, and tending to nothing. I do not say that Mr: Proctor may not be right in ascribing millions of yeara to the existence of heavenly bodies and this little planet of ours, but if hj» imply, though he does not openly assert, that man's creation goes further back than 6000 years, liebids fair to try to establish a fact that if proved wouli produce the destruction of the truth of the Bible, and, in consequence, the destruction of belief in the God of the Jews and Christians from their point of view.
