Mr. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports as follows for the week "ending 20th October : Fat Cattle. —193 head were yarded at Burnside to-day, consisting chiefly of medium to realiy prime quality. The namfcer was not excessive, but in consequence of recent markets having been fully supplied the demand was languid, and last weeks prices were scarcely supported, excepting for a few pens of very prime quality, which showed an advance of 2s 6d per _ 1001b. Bullocks realised from L 6 10s to Ll2 ss, and cows L 5 12s 6d to LS 5s per head. We sold on account of Mr. J. C. Buckland 21 cows at from L 4 7s Cd to Lfj 7s 6d ; on account of Messrs. Murray, Roberts, and Co., from their Gladbrook station, 15 head of superior bullocks, at from L 9 10s to HI 17s Gd, and 10 heifers at from L 7 5s to LS. Quotations for prime beef, C2s 6d; superior, 25s par 2001b. Fat Calves.—Two yarded, and sold at 14s and 18s <Jd. Fat Sheep were in full supply, 3017 head having been penned. The market was very dull, and there was great difficulty in effecting sales, last week's quotations being barely maintained. Cross-bretla in the wool sold at I2s to 13s; shorn, 7s 6d to 9s Cd; merinos in the wool, 9s to 10s bd; and shorn, 5s per head. We sold draft* of fhorn cross-bred on account of Messrs. J. G. Grey, J. G. Gilchrist, and David Corsan at from Ss 3d to 13s 6d, and on account of Mr. T. Davidson of 19S eross-breds in the wool, at 12s per head. We quote prime mutton barely per lb in the wool, and lid per lb shorn. Fat Lambs.—344 ottered, and sold at from 4a 6d to Ss 6d. We disposed of drafts on account of Messrs. Robson and Gilchrist at 4a and 73 6d respectively. ... Store Cattle. —There are several inquiries for store cattle, and since our last report we have disposed of about 1000 h^ad. Wool.—We sold a few small lot 3of fellmongera' wool on Mondiy, 33 followsS and Si, 1 bale scoured merino, Is 4id ; do, 4 bales scoured combing cross-bred, 13 4d; ATHY, 1 bale scoured "locks, lOd; also, K, 1 bale greasy cross-bred, 9|d; and 1 bag greasy pieces and black wool, A feu other lots offered not realising holders' limits have been shipped. Sheepskins.—We disposed of a small catalogue afc our weekly auction on Monday, which, with fair competition, realised abont last week's prices. Butchers' cro3s-breds fetched 4s 6d to fe, and merinos 4s (jd to ss; skins in bales, per lb j lambskin 3 up to lid each. Hides.—The demand continues very tirm at last quoted prices. Tallow. Market still inanimate, and lower prices must be looked for both for tallow and fat. Grain.—Wheat: The inquiry reported last week has continued, but good quality being in very short supply transactions are limited. We quote as before —for prime milling, 4s 6a to 4s 7d : and for medium to good, 3s 3d to 4s 3d per bushel. Oats : local demand quiet. There is still an inquiry for shipment, but at present prices the margin for export is doubtful. Prime samEles are still held for quotations above uyers' ideas, and we doubt more ■ than Is Sd could be got for prime milling. I Feed are in full supply at Is 6d for good and Is 4d to Is 5d for inferior. Barley : Nothing fresh to report.
