THE DUNTROON RAGES. (from our special reporter.) October 14. The following is the conclusion of our report of yesterday's races : Hack Selling Race. Five started for this event, the lot in the first heat being all together. Coming into the straight, however, got the load, and it. Sultana also won the second heat. The winner was then submitted to auction by Mr. G, Greenfield, and realised L 27. This closed the day's raoing, and it is to be hoped that fine weather will be experienced to-morrow. The stewards of the. Club worked hard throughout the day, and are deserving of praise for the manner in which the various events were got off.
SECOND DAY. Duntroon, October 15.
Although there are not so many spectators to-day as yesterday, there are still a largo number, principally of residents in the district. , The weather is delightful here, and in great contrast tq tl>at e>: : periencecl yesterday; and everything is going off smoothly, ' The booths appear to be doing a flourishing trade, The first race on the oard was started shortly after one o'clock. The following are the results : Handicap Hurdle Race, of 50 Sovs; 2 Miles. Mr C. Bourne's Miloj 10st 21b ~, ... 1 Mr W. Maitland's Shillelagh, Bst 101b ... 2 JVJr J. H. Lunn's isqbin Ho.od, sst 71b, .. 3 Acjalgisa and Glarencp weye scratched. Milo was the favorite. Milo jumped away with the lejid, but was soon overhauled by Honest John, who, however, baulked at the second hurdle, and was never afterwards in the hunt. Shillelagh then went to the front, with Robin Hood second and Milo third. Opposite the. stand Milo assumed the second place, and quickly overhauled Shillelagh. Coming into the straight Shillelagh made a desperate effort, but could not roach the mare, who won easily. v ' ' " There were nearly nine pounds in the totalisator. Waitaki Jockey Club Handicap of 60 Sovs; If Mile. Mr R. Mason's Randwick, 7st 71b ... 1 Mr H. Goodman's Tera 6st 121b 2 Mr W. Goddard's Emerald 6st 3 Clarence, York, Unknawn, Blue Peter, and Adamant were scratched. Randwick had the largest share of betting, Tera meeting with some fayoy. A good stapt wsvs effected, Randwick taking the lead, Pilot Fish then went tp the front, with Randwick 2nd, Tera 3rd, and Emerald 4th. At the stand Pilot Fish, still leading, ran off the course, Adamant than assumed the lead, the other three being in a cluster. They raced in this manner half way round the course. Coming into the straight, Randwick took the lead, with Tera 2nd, and Adamant 3rd. There were Ll6 in the totalisator. Novel Race, of 30 Sovs; 1.1 Mile. Mr D. O'Brien's May Morn w.o. This was a very hollow affair. Adalgisa, Bella, and Ned Kelly were scratched, allowing May Morn to walk over.
1 Ladies' Purse of 40 SoyjS'; 1J Mile. Mr F. Shaw's Adamant (Shaw) 1 Mr T. C!. Hill's Unknown ... (Schliiter) 2 Mr j. H. Lunn's Clarence .;. (I/unh) '3 Betting, 2 to 1 on Adamant. After ohe false start, the lot were' despatched very even terms. Magician went first to the front, with Unknown second, and Clarence third, Adamant; lying behind. These ,positions Were maintained until opposite the stand, when Adamant went to the front, and kept the lead. Unknown was a good second.
