(BY TELEGRAPH.) October 8. Canterbury potatoes are so overstocked as to be almost unsaleable. In some instances the cost of freight can scarcely be obtained. Oamaru potatoes find ready sale at LA to L 5 per ton. Local maize is easier, and is quoted in lines at 3s. It ranges from 3s to 3a 3d Of Sydney maize there is not much in the market; when sold for seed purpose 3a 6d to 3s 9d is obtained. Oats are easier, bat there is no decided alteration. All kinds of barley are difficult to move.

CHRISTCHUKCH GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT. (From the Canterbury Times.) We have not much of a. special nature to report in connection "with the gnun market daring the week just closed. A fair amount of bnsiness has been earned through on almost the same basis of quotations as the •weekpreceding. . . Wheat. —A few sales are reported at 4s la to 4s 2d for first-class milling. For an extra sample an advance on the latter rate could be obtained. Average lota are quoted at 3s lOd to 4s. Several parcels of chick wheat hive been sold during the past few days at prices ranging "between 2s and "is 6d. Oats.—The market for this gram has not altered in any particular. The absence of an active enquiry for milling samples is still noticeable. The lull at the moment is no daabt partly attributable to the increased freights lately asked by the different shippine companies having checked operations. Prices, however, have not been sensibly affected, though dealers are more guarded In purchasing. Bright heavy milling command Is 7d to Is Bd, and several heavy lines have within the last day or two been taken up at the above values. Transactions m feed oats have been fairly numerous at Is 3d to Is 4d, »«"* for an extra tood lot Id more has been got. Inferior descriptions arc quoted at Is Id to Is 2d. Barley.—-The quotations of last week are still current with a slightly improved feeling for the best kinds. First-class finds buyers from 3s 3d to 3s 6d, and fair malting at 2s Gd to 2s 9d. Feed descriptions continue comparatively plentiful, and are not in much request, values are Is 6d to Is 9d. Potatoes continne very difficult to sell, and the market ia thoroughly listless, with a thorough absence of enquiry. Rates are purely nominal. „ ITloor Is in excellent dennmd at I*lo 103 to Grass Seed. —Not much can be reported as having transpired in rye grass. Prices remain unaltered. Several large parcels of cocksfoot have been tried lately without leading to business.
