Kate, out of old Gipsy, by Prince Charlie (imported). Jean, as a 2-year-old was placed first at the Taieri and first at Dunedin ; ajs a 3-year-old took first at the Taieri and second at Tokomairiro. Jean's dam, Kate, as a 2-year-old secured second at Taieri and first at Dunedin ; as a 3-year-old was first at Taieri and first at Dunedin, while the following yea'r she not only took first as the best brood mare, but \y&a awarded the Champion Cup, presented by Messrs. He tookseveral first prizes in Scotland when two and three years old. His dam was the celebrated mare Matchless, never beaten in her day. He also gained the first prize, against all comers, at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show in 1867, being there for the first time in New Zealand. The following year he gained the Gold Medal at the 'lokomairiro Agricaltural and. Pastoral Society'j Grand Show, and wa,s reckoned by competent judges to. be the best bred horse in Otago; ftlso, the Gold Medal at the Clutha. Scotland Yet, gained second priae at the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show in 1877 ; and in IS7B he gained the same Society's first prize, beating a field of seven, and he was admitted by the judges on that oocasion.to be the best colt bred from the Prince of Walea, Terms—Single Mareß, £5; payable on or ! before Ist, February, 1881.
