WRECK OF THE BRIGANTINE JAMES A. STEWART.

— (X'iY TELEGRAPH.) Auckland, October 8. .Information was received in Auckland to-day that the Auckland brigantino James A. Stewart had gone ashore at Kaipara Heads. She was bound outwards with a cargo of timber loaded at Aratapu for Adelaide> but no particulars of the cause of the accident had reached town up to a late hour in the afternoon. A telegram has been received by Messrs* M'Kenzie and Ross from Captain Qolin M'Donald, of the Magellan QJoud> which states that the James -A. Stewart had been stranded qq the Korth Spit last night, and abandoned by the craw. There were r*o, signs of men on the vessel. The message also stated that the brig did not appear nauch damaged. A later telegram fyona tho Harbor-master at Kaipara states that there are no signs of the crow. The James A. Stewart is a brigantine of 170 tons register, owned by Messrs. M'Kenzie and Ross, Auckland. She was I built at Nova Scotia four years ago, and arrived here from New York two years ago last April. She.is insured in the Now Zealand Company for LISOO. Tha vessel left Auckland some time ago for Kaipara, where she was to be loaded with timber for Adelaide. Sho was under the command of J;. for some considerable time. The pilot crew from the Kaipara pilot station went to her this morning, and found her high and dry on the beach abandoned. None of the erew were seen. The vessel did not appear to be much injured. She Uoa about three miles, outside the north head at Kaipara. The owners have subsequently received | the following telegram from Messrs. iM'Kenzie and Ross:—"The James A. i Stewart got outside the North Spit yester* day with her mast gone. The hulk oame on the beach last night. No. tidings of the crew at 8 a.m. this morning. Will send particulars from Heads.—J. Chkistie Smith, Harbor-master."
