Heavy showers have fallen daring the past four or five days, and have greatly refreshed the young crops and the pasture. e GHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The following is the report for the week ending Friday evening, Sept. 24 ; Business during the week has been of a most unimportant character. The principal business doing is grain passing into local consumption. Shippers are in the market for feed grains- The demand is scarcely so good, as there appears to be some difficulty in obtaining freight. With the wool season cow rapidly approaching, it is probable that this difficulty will increase. The market for all classes of grain is hardly so strong. Wheat. —Good sound milling i 3 being inquired for, and is saleable at 4s to 4s 3d j second quality, 33 6d to 3s 9d; chick wheat, 2s 6d to 3s 3d per bushel. Considerable quantities are offering with bpt an indifferent demand. Sales have taken place during the week at from 103 to 20s per ton, sacks extra. It is difficult to quote the exact value, as the exigences of the case frequently influen"e the price. In all cases gaeks extra. Cheese and Butter.—There i 3 no change to report on the state of the market for these articles of produce. The former is in fair supply at from 4d to 4£d. The latter is abundant, and is hardly saleable. Grass Seed.—A better inquiry has been apparent during the week, but prices arc not -sensibly affected. Messrs. Miles, Bros, and Co. report, under date London, August 12, as follows : WOOL. Our English wools have advanced slightly, &nd there is rather a more cheerful tone in our woollen districts, where a fair amount of business is doing; trade in Germany being also pretty brisk, but reports from France are still a little nnsatiafaetory. The Havre, River Plate wool anctions'opened on the 10th inst., with a moderate attendance of buyers, but only 373 bales out of 1900 bales were dispcaed of at a decline of Ad to 14 per lb on iixy'e auctions.
