WELLINGTON. September 19. A fire broke out at 10.45 last night in a stable owned by Hill Brothers, brickmakers, which, along with a portion of the brick shed, wa3 completely destroyed. One hrirse in stable was tq death. It is not known how the fire but it iB supposed that it was the aat of incendiarism, as the stable has been on fire two or three times previously. There was no insurance.
DUNEDIN. September 20. A four-roomed cottage at the Maori Kaik, belonging to Mr. John Robinson, was burned down. The loss is L2OO, and is not covered by insurance. At the City Eolice pourt to-dav, Alfr.ecj. Hale an 4 Alfred Major were for trial of horse-stealing.

A case arising out of the tailor's strike was heard at the Magistrate's Court this i morning, when John Menclal was charged with having? threatened to blind and to break the arm or leg of Mathias Sorensen, because the latter refused to join the Tailors' Society and act .with the men on strike. The Bench ordered the accused to be bound over to keep the peace for six months, and expressed its determination to inflict the severest possible penalty on the slightest attempt at anything of this kind in future,
AUCKLAND. September 18. The unemployed have declined the Council's offer of stone breaking at 4s 2d per yard, A procession to the Council offices ia arranged by Gerrard for Monday morning. At last night's open air meeting he said he might probably stand for the Assembly. September §Q. . A meeting was held at Ngaruawahia on Saturday, to protest against the withdrawal of the suburban land from sale. Dr. S.kaa visited St. Mary's Orphanage, Ponsonby, in company with Mr. Tole, M, H.R.j in order to report to the Government. The heads of Government Departments here have received circulars to report as to the ages, length of services, etc,, of their officials. A procession of unemployed is taking place in Queen^street.
