On Saturday, Mr. Johnston, father of the telegraphkt, arrived in Oamani, for the purpose of making inquiries touching the whereabouts of his son, who disappeared ten days 3"0. We are pleased to learn that Mr. Johnston has been successful in his efforts, having obtained tidings of the whereabouts of the missing telegraphist. A hotise belonging to Mr. Thomas Dunn at Cave Valley was entirely destroyed by tire on SaUirday evening. Mr. A- M'Leod moved that a sub-committee, confuting of the captain, vine-captain, hon. secretary, and the mover, wait on the Municipal to ascertain the suitability of the Recreation Jksej-ve in Isis-street for a cricket ground. Mr. W. Bannerman received a hearty vote of thanka for his services as secretary, and the usual vote to the chairman closed the meeting.

Gentlemen interested in the formation of a committee for the purpose of getting up an entertainment in aid of the funds of the Fire Brigade are requested to meet at the Star and Garter Hotel at S o'clock to-night. We understand that assurances have been given that the meeting will be attended by representatives from the Fire Brigade, Municipal Council, insurance companies, and the Caledonian Society, and should the work of setting up a" concert betaken in hand in a spirit worthy of the object to which the proceeds are to be applied—namely, the purchase of a fire-alarm bell and the erection of a tower, we feel sure that the sum required (about Lsi>) will be obtained without any •Teat amount of trouble. Should the Committee succeed in providing a miscellaneous tntertainment of songs, recitations, arid dances, given by the' representatives of England, Scotland, and Ireland, the tickets will be in demand, and an enjoyable evening the result.
