FRIGHTFUL ACCIDENT ON THE WELLINGTON RAILWAY.
THREE PERSONS KILLED. , (by telegraph.) Wellington, September lli . News has just been received of an alarming accident on the Wellington*Feather3ton railway line. A telegram received by the Government states that the Featherston train was blown over at Liberia. Two carriages and a van were wrecked and some passengers injured, but it is not known how many. Assistance has been sent up, and full particulars have been telegraphed for. Later. The news of railway accident is causing great excitement in town, which, as is generally the case on Saturdays, is more crowded than on other days. A special train, taking medical assistance, left here at noon. Still Later, The latest information re the train disaster shows that the carriage had dropped 70 feet. The engine and tender remained on the line. A later telegram received states that Miss Pharzyn, daughter of a well-known station-owner, ,of Wairarapa, was killed; also two girls named Nicholas and Quinn. A large number Jmve been injured, and it is feared that thgre are more killed than has as yet been reported. The train was from Featherston to Wellington. Latest. A later telegram states that about six adults were badly injured, and have been taken to the Grey town Hospital. T wo other children named Pharagyp, and Nicholas were" severely but are expected to recover. They have been taken on to Featherston.
