It is believed that the time for returning the schedules will be extended till the end of October. At the Hospital inquiry this afternoon, a report was drawn out, to be submitted to the Colonial Secretary, recommending that immediate aeUon be taken in reference to reorganising the staff. CHEISTeHURCH. September 6. An information was laid against a cabman by the Tramway Company to-day, for obstructing the line opposite the railway station. This arose out of the dispute last week. After a lengthy hearing, the R.M. decided that the company, having followed neither the deposited plan nor the Order in Council, the portion of line in question (about two ehains where the rails cross the south belt), was not authorised within the meaning of the Act, and consequently there could be no obstruction. Mr. Cowlishaw gave notice to appeal on general grounds. September 7. The I?en(3volent Association is in g,n awkward position. The funds are exhausted, and the Association. owes over LSO. KUMARA. September 6. A complimentary banquet was given here on Friday night to Mr. R. J. Seddon, M.H.Ji., on his return from Parliament. Sixty pergons were present, the Mayor in the Ghair ? The mining community was strongly represented, and the speeches made were in no way political.

At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, John Pound, recently arrested in Aupkland op a of wife desertion, and now doing sentence for. that and wilful damage to property, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court for burglary committed at Timaru Post Office about two months since. The Timaru School Committee to-night resolved to request parents of children to pay Is per head per month towards incidental expenses, provided the total amount paid by any parent does not exceed 2s 6d.
