THE RAILWAY EMPLOYEES AND REDUCTION OF PAY.
(by telegraph. ) Christchtjrch, September 6. The revised scale of wages for railway employe's was circulated on Saturday. The Committee held a meeting in the evening and discussed the scale for upwards of five hours. The Sub-Committee reported that they had waited on one of the -heads of the department, -who considered the new scale on the whole a fair one, exoept as referring to the laborers, and he stated that a strike would not cause serious inconvenience to the authorities, as plenty of skilled labor was available. During the meeting several cases of seeming injustice of the new scale were mentioned. It was ultimately, resolved to defer any action till after the mass meeting to be held in Dunedin this evening.
