The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,820,000 quarters. New Zealand wheat, ex ship, 435. At the wool sales to-day, 10,300 bales were offered, making a total of 141,200 catalogued since the opening, The tone of the sale was fair. The Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State for India, replying to a deputation which waited on him to-

day, laid stress upon the diffculty and inconvenience of retaining Candahai', and hinted that it would be necessary to evacuate that province. In the House of Commons to. r dajy Mr. Parnell reverted to the faot of the House of Lords having again rejected the Registration of Voters in Ireland Bill, and proposed to tack the same on to the Appropriation Act. Mr. Forster, Chief Secretary for Ireland, opposed the proposal, and blamed the House of Lords for persisting in a course calculated to lead to a change in the constitution. Sir Stafford Northcote strongly protested against tapking the Bill qn tq the Appropriation Act, and expressed his amazement at the language used. September 4. At the wool sales to-day, 7000 bales wei'e offered, making a total of 148,200 bales catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sale continues fiym.

The Orient Company's steamer Client sailed from Plymouth to-day for Melbourne, The American Hops and Bitters Company has arranged for a regatta to be held on the Thames on November 22, and gives prizes to the value of LI 000. Trickett and Laycoek, the Australian, oarsmen, will compete. The Bank rate of discount at B,er.lin has risen to r day to h\ per cent. The Bank of England rate is 2-£ per cent. The market rate is 2^. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr, Parnell's mption th,at the Irish Registration of Voters Bill, which had been rejected by the House of Lords, should be tacked to the Appropriation Bill, came under discussion. After further debate, the motion was re-

jected. In the House of Lords to-day, the Hares and Rabbits Bill, which had been re-amended in the House of Commons, and the Burials Bill, which had also been amended by the House .of Commons, after its receipt from, the House of Lords, were again considered. After discussion the amendments of the Lower House were accepted, and both Bills finally passed. It is expected that Parliament will be prorogued on Tuesday next. Mr. Gladstone has returned from his cruise in the Grantley Castle off the coasts of Ireland and Scotland, and is now quite restored to health. St. Petersbubgh, Sept. 4; The Czar has arrived at Lividia, from St. Petersburgh. It is reported hei'e to-day that the line of railway at Sharkoff, in the province of that name, has been discovered to be completely undermined.
