At the meeting of railway employes; to-night, a telegram was read from the Minister for Public Works, the purport of j which was that Government, in the first place, did not intend to apply the 10 per' cent, reduction to the railway, but that, they had some time ago issued instruct tions to the Commissioner to assimilate' the rates of pay to those of outside work-; men. Through the break in the telegraph; these measures could not be arranged in time, and the ten per cent, was therefore 1 taken off as a temporary measure.
