OAMARU JOCKEY CLUB.
•fte Committee of this Club met at the Empire Hotel last evening, and adopted the following report for submission to the annual meeting of members, to be held on friciay evening : The Committee of the Oamaru Jockey Club, "J meeting l^e members at its first jnnnsraiiry, feel that they may congratulate tie Club on a successful career ; and the accompanying balance-sheet shows thaf Oamaru may fairly take a high potion among the racing centres of New Zealand. A reference to the accounts exhibited by the Treasurer shows that the amount received from various sources Jurin" 'he current year amounts to L 1519 as !)d. that the expenses of the year have ton U33ti 4s 4d, leaving a profit-balance of LI&S Is sd. But the Committee have itemed it fitting to vote a sum of LBO towards the deticiences of the Oamaru Turf Club, and this reduces the creditMince to LlO3 la sd. The Committee ask yoor approval of the vote. There are outstanding liabilities for advertising amounting to L 5, but there are also assets hv way of hardies, bell, etc., which may be estimated to be worth L2O. Altogether the Committee feel that they may fairly claiai to have carried through the operatiiins of the year in a satisfactory manner. The sport provided at the three meetings was very successful. No difficulty of any kind presented itself, and no protest as to any race was lodged. The Committee have been especially fortunate in the services of Mr. Moss, Treasurer ; and, although the Secretary has been changed three times during the season, they feel that each of the three has fairly done his duty. I'pon the annual general meeting devolves the electiou of a new committee and officers, and your Committee s experience induces them to advise that the iuture Secretary should be the servant, and not a member of the Committee, and that he should be paid a salary for his igrvices. To the incoming Committee is left the question of the number of race meetings to be held during the year, but the Club is invited to express an opinion as tn whether it would be desirable to hold mpring meeting in November, as weli as the ieneral meeting to be held on the 17th and 18th March. A reference to the balance-sheet will show that the last spring meeting was a pecuniary success, but opinions vary as to the probabilities of a similar meeting this year being equally successful. The annual balance-sheet was also submitted and adopted. This showed that the total receipts fur the year had been L 1493 fis 3d, while the sum of L2o 10s Gd had yet to be received. The total expenditure was Ll4lO 4s 4d. so that should the jum owing to the Club t>e paid it will leave a balance of LlO3 Is 5d with which to commence the year. A letter was read from the Dunedin Jockey Club asking the Oamaru Club's cooperation in the appointment of a handicapper for the whole of the Colony. Consideration of the matter was ordered !o stand over. A letter was read from the Hawke's Bay ftapier) .Jockey Ciub, intimating that it iiad resolved to contribute LlO a3 a subB<iy towards a New Zealand Turf Register, •nd asking other club 3 to join with it, ordered to stand over for considerate n.
