THE OKARITO RUSH.

(by TELEGRArS.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. A letter reoeived by the Under-Secre-tary for Goldflelds from the Warden at Okarito states as follows :—The number of miners at present on the ground I estimate at from 90 to 100. Up to this date there are, I believe, thirteen claims represented by thirty-four miners on payable gold, and I calculate the average returns to be from L 3 to L 3 10s per week per man. The best claim at present, held by four men, is avQraging over L 6 per week. There are a number of shafts being sunk and several tunnels applied for, varying in length from 300 to 400 feet, which will, cost a large amount of time and capital to complete. I feel confident that eventually this will prove a good goldfiield, but I would wish to warn miners without means against rushing the distriot at present.
