The tone of auction was animated. There is a steady demand for tanned .skins and hides, and' prices are -1-d dearer,

The Australian cricketers play against the All England Eleven a three days' match at Kennington Oval, on the 2nd or 6th September. The match between the Australians and eighteen qf Scarborough, at Scarborough, was com* mpngecl tp-flay. The Home team went first to the wickets, and were all disposed of for 170 runs. The Australians then went in for their first innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had lost 7 wickets for 33 (sic) runs. August 20-. The Supreme Commission which was appointed by the Czar in March last for the maintenance of the peace of jßvissia has npw been abolished, General Louis Meliko4f, -who was the head of the Commission, has, as recently announced, been appointed Minister of the Interior.

August 21. General Stewart has arrived, and is quartered at Jellalabad, General Sir Frederick Roberts passed through Ghuznee unopposed, but reports say that Mahomed Nassim kept hovering on his flank during the march.

General Phayre has started with his rplief force from Khojah.
