NGAPARA.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Ngapara, August IGL Building operations are steadily on th& increase with us, the latest being a small shop erected by Mr. Campbell for Mr. James Chapmen, who has already commenced business in it as a bootiuakur. Mr. Chapman is an old resident with us having been for some timo in the employ of Mr. Ardagh, and if the district is nblo to support two of the same trade, I fool certain that Mr. Chapman will got his fair share.

The farmers in the district aro again making preparations for the annual Maerewhenua ploughing match. A meeting was held on Saturday evening last at Mr. Geo. Hutchison's farm, but no particulars are to hand yot as to what was done thereat.

At last we are to get our long-talked-of never-to-be-forgotten cattle yards (perhaps). The official painters' van, &c., aro here already, but whether the men intend to start work or not remains to bo seon.

Elder George Batt, the Mormon apostle, has spread his influence even to Ngapara,, Mr, David Grainger, better known si Davy, the fat cook, having signified hia intention of at onco proceeding to Utah to embrace the Mormon faith, to say nothing of the ladies. We are to have a lecturo and dance lioro on the 27th inst., in aid of purchasing scientific apparatus for the use of tho school, and as Mr. Sutherland, of tho County Council, ia tho gentleman that will hold forth, I expect to see a gooi attendance.

As you are already awaro tho Terminus Hotel has changed hands, and the now landlord, Mr. Symons, took possession last week. I believe the whole building is to be put in thorough repair again hp Mr. Larkin, of Oamaru, and it is to. bo hoped that Mr. Symons will meet with sufficient encouragement to recoup him for his outlay. The weather at the present timet ii everything that could bo desirod,, and gardening and farming operatioua ara both in full swing.
