The sales were as foil w• On account of Mr. Donald Borrie, 200 half-bred fat ewes at 13s fid to 13s 3d ;on account of Mr. James Gibson. 131 half-bred fat ewes and wethers at 13s lid ; on account of Mr. Junes Burnett, 60 half-bred fat ewc3 at l;.s, or equal to 3d per lb : on account of Messrs. Jescop and Elder, 10 head fat cattle at from J£ 5s to L 7 10s per head, or e.-pial to -os per lOOlbs. THE LA 15011 MAKKET.. Mr. Henry Macintosh reports for the -week ending August 14. as follows: A decided improvement in the labor market during the past week, and if the number of rashes to the different gold "elds keeps up, ■we might find men scarce enough yet as the season advances, when the demand for thern will be greatest. Females are always in fair demand, and now that the prices of cereals have improved, the farmers are looking more cheerful and business people in town begin to feel the change, as the general depression is getting dispelled. The general impression is that things will work round again, no one seeming to doubt the future of Oatnaru. The rates of wages, although lower than last season, yet, for servants of both classes, good fair wages are still given. DUJfEDJM. (BY TEt.EGR.VPIf.) August 13. AUCKLAND. (by telegraph.) August 13. Oats have increased in value : no wholesale lines are obtainable under 2a per bushel; local maize is 3s to 3s 3d per bushel; Sydney maize is scarce and worth abou- 3s fid, some merchants are inclined to ask 3s 9d. Canterbury potatoes, 1-4 per ton. bags included ; Auckland potatoes are almost done. Prices in this market have not urdergnne any change, nor is any alteration likely at present.
