The attendance was large and the bidding spirited. Water tank fetched L 5; gas stove, L 3 2s Gd : gas fittings, L 3 ss; oats, 6s 6d per bag; furniture and sundries at satisfactory prices.

Laery and Campbell report Apples, none in market ; orange 3, Ss to 0s ; chick .wheat, 2s to 2s 2d ; fresh butter, 9d ; salt bntter, cheese, hams, bacon, qnite unsaleable ; eggs, Is 3d; oni ns, market slatted, no sale ; fowls, -Is ; potatoes, L2 15s; maize, 33 to 3s 6d ; flour, in lOOlbs, Ll2; bran, Sd : sharps, L 5 10s. DUNEDIN MARKETS. Mr. Donald Stronaeli (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) reports as follows for the week ending August 11 : Fat Cattle were only in moderate supply at Banudde to-day, when 152 head were yarded, which sold at an improvement on last week s rates. Bullocks realised from L 7 10s up.to T.IA, and cows from L 5 10s up to LI 2 os per head. We disposed of a further draft on account of Messrs. Smith and Dornwell, from the celebrated > eadown herd, which realised L 9 17s Gd to Lll 17s (id per head for cows. Quotations for prime beef, 27s Gd per 1001b ; and for medium, 22s 6d to 25s per 1001b. Fat Sheep.—29s9 head were penned, consisting of 2159 cross-bred and 770 merino. The former sold at 10s 3d to 16s Gd per head, and the latter at 9s 6d to 123. being slightly better than last week's prices We sold on account of Messrs. "W alter Miller, TV ilson Brothers, J. C. Gilchrist, and F. Schaw, 413 cross-breds at from 10s 3d to 15s 9d; and 179 merinos at 93 6d per head. We quote prime mutton 2?d 3d per lb. Wool. —Telegraphic advices from London received during the week report the market dull, without any demand. As the next public sales will commence on Tuesday, the 17th cart., we hope to hear of an improvement in a few days. On Monday last wc sold sundry small lots of fellmongers' scoured wool, at from IHd to I7d for cross-bred, and Is 6d for merino ; also, a few bag 3 of greasy wool at 7t(i to Sid for fleece, 7d for pieces aad black wool. Sheepskins.— We offered and cleared a fnll catalogue at our weekly auction on Monday, with fair competition, and at prices fully equal to those of previous sales. The lots consisted principally of butchers' skins, which fetched 2s" Id to 5s 7d for cross-bred, and Is (kl to 4s M for merino.

Hides. —We have clearer! several consignments at late prices—say, 32 i per lb. for wet and 203 each for butchers' green hides, heifer and calf skins in proportion, — tmfc, as reported last week, we do not look for % maintenance of these rates. Tallow. —Well-rendered tallow is worth 28a, and butchers' rough fat lGs to 1< s per cwt., at which we report transactions. Grain.—Wheat: There is a moderate inquiry for local consumption, bat stocks are low, and business limited, especially in second-rate descriptions. Prime samples would command last week's quotations, which we repeat, viz. Prime milling, 43 3d to 4s 6d; medinm, 3s Stl to 4s; fowls' feed, 2a 9d to 3s 3d per bushel. Oats :No change to report, buyers being unwilling to give prices asked ; transactions being only to supply immediate requirements. e quote Is 6d to Is 7d for prime milling; Is 4d to Is ad per bushel for feed oats. Barley: Really first-class samples are in demand at last week's quotations, but for medium the inquiry is extremely limited. e have made sales of fair malting quality at 3s, and quote prime malting at 3s 3d to 3s 6d per boahel.
