In order to find room for full telegrams relating to tlie Afghan war and other interesting telegraphic news, we are compelled to hold over a large quantity of matter prepared for this issue. We are informed that a contract has been signed with Messrs. Allan and Stumbles for the construction of another section of the Hakateramea railway. This is very good news for the unemployed. A return has been laid upon the table of the House showing the number of residents in the whole of the new electoral districts. The figures for North Otago are as follows : Waitaki, 4432; Oamaru, 4927 ; Moeraki, 3SSS. Mrs. John Budge, of Otepopo, died very suddenly yesterday morning. Deceased had been ailing more or less for some considerable time, but was in her usual spirits till 3 p.m. op Sunday, when she took seriously ill, and died yesterday morning at half-past 6. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr. Budge and the family. Captain Edwin telegraphs : —Bad weather is approaching in any direction between north and west and south-west. The glass will further fall, but rise again within 12 hours. We understand that the inspection of Volunteers will take place on the 19th, so to obtain the benefit of moonlight for drill. At the R.jVL Court to-day, before T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M., three men, for being drunk and disorderly, were fined respectively 10s, os, and 20s, -with the alternative of three days' hard labor, 24 hours' hard labor, and 4 djiys' hard labor. William Lee, on remand for obtaining money a,nd board and lodgings on false pretences, was committed for trial at the next criminal sessions of the District Court. Jarvis White, for allowing two horses to wander at large on the 7th instant, was fined 6s.
