DUNEDIN MARKETS. Mr. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) reports aa follows for the week ending August 4 - Fat Cattle.—l7l bead were yarded at Bornaide to-day, consisting chiefly of good to really prime quality. The demand was sufficient to clear off the supply at some improvement on last week's rates. Bullocks fetched from LS to Ll3 2s 6d, and cows from £6 to LI 1 per head. "We sold on account of Messrs. Smith and Dornwell the first draft of magnificent well-bred cows and heifers from the celebrated herd of Messrs. Fleming and Hedley, Seadown Estate, r.t from L'J 8s to Lll per head. Quotations : For prime beef, 25s to 27s 6d, and medii.m 22s 6d per 1001b. Privately we have placed 620 head. Fat Calves.—Five head were sold at 27s Fat Sheep.—The supply consisted of 232S of which 3-"0 were merinos and 217S cross-breds, principally good quality. The former sold at from 9s 9d to 12s Od, and the latter at from 13s 9d to 16s 3d per head. In consequence of the full supply at last week's market, butchers had not cleared off T+rwlra and the demand was not brisk at gcareely previous rates. We sold 140 head of croes-breds on account of Mr. J. C. Gilchrist at 16s. Quotation for prime mutton barely 2Jd per lb. Sheepskins.—"We had a full catalogue at ctir weekly sale on Monday, which met with good competition, and was cleared at prices showing some improvement on those of previous week. Quotations realised For butcher#* crossbred skins, 2s 7d to os Id; merinos, 3s 3d to 3s lOd; station and fullwoolled skins, 2s Id to 5s each; skins in bales, 7d per lb ; pelts, 9d each. Hi'flpg We report further sales at prices previously quoted, viz., 20s each for butchers gteen hides and 3Jd p*r lb for wet salted ; but there are indications that these rates will not be supported in future transactions. Tallow. Demand continues fair at about laafc week's quotations, at which we have sales—say 20s to 27s per cwt. for wellrendered tallow, and 16s to ISs for rough fat. Grain.—Wheat: The market is decidedly firmer for good descriptions, and sales have been made up to 4s 6d for very prime ynillmg. Other descriptions have not yet participated fully in the improvement, but •applies being very limited the prospect is favorable. We quote as follows i—Prime milling 4s 3d to 4s 6d; medium, 33 Sd to j 4a ; fowls' feed, 2s 9d to 3s 3-1 per bushel, j Oats: Holders continue firm for higher rates, but as buyers are indisposed to give | prices demanded there is but little doing. In the absence of business we cannot quote above Is 6d per prime milling and Is 4d to la 5d for feed. Barley :We report sales of medium quality malting at from 2s 6d to 3s per bushel. Probably 3s or 3s 6d migiifc be obtained for any parcels of prime malt- j J-pcr although demand is very limited.
