LATEST HOME AND FOREIGN NEWS. (IiBUTER ; S TKLKGRAJM. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION) London, August 3. Tlie Right Hon. Mr. Gladstone is progressing favorably. The fever is diminishing. The match between the Australians and 11 of Gloucestershire County team, at Clifton, was continued to-day. The Home team went in to finish their innings, and were all disposed of for 191 runs. Palmer took six wickets. The Australians then went in for their second innings, and were all out for 246 runs. Macdonnell was caught for 79 runs, Bonner was also caught for 35 runs. The attendance at the match was very large. The fielding of the Home team was very "weak. August 4. In the House of Lords last night the Irish Tenants Compensation Bill, which was sent up from the House of Commons, came under discussion. After debate the rejection of the Bill was moved and carried by 280 to 51. Mauritius, July 26. There is nothing shipping for Axistralia, owing to sugars arriving slowly. The Eastern Australian Mail Company's steamship Normanby has arrived from Singapore with the Torres Straits mail. She brings the following items of Eastern news:—
Chinese preparations for war with Russia continue unabated. Prince Kung and the Viceroy of Kansan still maintain their ascendancy, and there is reason to believe that their warlike feelings are undiminished at Pekin. Six thousand French troops will occupy Tonquin in Cochin China in September. Piracy is rife at the present time in Chinese waters. ♦ DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS, (REUTER'S TELEGRAM PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Melbourne, August 4. Arrived-; Union Company's steamer Amwata, from Bluff. New Zealand oats, 2s 7d to 2s 8d per bushel, with firm and active de--mand. Kevern, who has been charged with embezzlement at Marton, has again been remanded.
