POLITICAL INTELLIGENCE.
(by telegraph.) (from our own correspondent.) Wellington, August 3. The report of the Bills Committee of the Legislative Council upon the Oamaru Loan Bill will be considered in the Council tormorrow, There are indigations that non-compliance with the standing orders, re advertising the intention to introduce the Bill, will not prevent it passing. The Public Works Statement will be delivered this evening. It is said Ministers will tell a sorry tale, and more sensationalism is looked for. Members are beginning to talk of returning home, and the exodus will probably commence in a fortnight. It is hoped that the session will close in about fouj? wee^cs. I hear it stated on pretty good authority that Te Whiti has at least 400 followers, all prepared to continue the work of fencing and to be arrested. If so the Constabulary and the Government have lively prospects before them. It is questionable now whether the Oamaru Harbor Board Endowment Bill will be passed by the Legislative Council. A Committee has reported strongly against it, and no doubt a large number of memr bers of the Council will eagerly seize upon the report as a pretext for opposing the measure. The Hons. H. J. Miller and It. Campbell will do their best to secure the passage of the Bill, but the result is very doubtful.
