THE LABOR MARKET. Henry Macintosh reports for the week* ending 31st July, as followsj The tone of the market has improved during the week, the demand being very much better; but yet there is a great margin tor improvement, in men especially, e for men servants not being so good now as in the corresponding season last year. However the demand should now begin to improve, as the season is now advancing When we should expect an increase m the demand for all classes. We have always felt a difficulty in supplying good domestic Movants for town ancl country, and although welfiave got a great number at present thonxigh good .general sevants are scarce. AUCKLAND. (by telegraph.) July 30. During last week business has been dull. Trade transactions are limited, but on the whole sound. Stocks and shares have an all-round npward tendency and are gradually hardening. Oats, plentiful, quoted at Is lOd to 2s 2d; maize, average lines, 3s per bushel: Sydney and Fijian maize scarce; oatmeal, nominal, Lll to Lll 10s. A parcel of feed barley "was sold during the week at 2a 3d.
