The attendance was very large, and satisfactory price 3 procured for all the lots. CHRISTCHUKCH. (BY TFXEr.R-U'll.) July 22. The grain market the past week has not shown any special feature. A fair amount of trade can be reported, and the feeling on the whole is healthier. VV heat— Milling samples have been sold during the week at 3s 61, and 3a 3d to 3s -Jd for lower grades. Seed parcels have had a better enquiry. Feeding descriptions continue abundant. Oats —The improved feeling already noted continues, and good samples of feed kinds command Is 3d to Is -td. Best milling are in good demand, and Is od to Is s£d can be obtained. Considerable sales of both of the above descriptions have transpired lately. Sales of lower qualitv are not ao easily made, and the quantity offered continues large. Barley—Fair sales of good malting barley have taken place dnring the week at 2s Gd" to 2s Sd. The quotation for first-class remains at 3s 3d, but the samples coming forward answering to this class are Dot numerous., Business in for shipment lately has been comparatively brisk at 22s 6d to 25s Other line 3 are unchanged. Sheep—Prime cross-breds sold up to 19s, Prime merino brought 13s 6d and light weights 10s. We "quote mutton at Sgd per lb. Cattle—The supply of fat cattle was in excess of the demand. Beef realised 22s 6d per lOOlbs. There is a brisk inquiry for two and three-year-old stock.

DUNEDIN MARKETS. Mr. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the NewZealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) reports as follows for the week ending July 21 : Fat Cattle.—ln consequence of the full supply of 245 head Burnside to-day, the demand was not very spirited, and prices gave way to the extent of about 2a 6d per 1001b. Bullocks realised L 7 to LlO as per head, and cows LSL 7 7s 6<L Quotation for prime beef, 255, and for medium, 22s 6d per 1001b. Fat Calves.—Only three offered, which sold at 52s to 56s per head. Fat Sheep were in very large supply, 3396 head having been penned, consisting of 1000 merinos and 2396 cross-breds. The former description sold at from 7s 3d to 14s, and the latter at from 9s to 17s Gd per head, but a considerable number were turned out. Last week's prices were not maintained by about Is to Is 6d per head. Oa account of Messrs. J. C. Gilchrist, T. and M. Henderson, Thomas Murray, Walter Miller, Paton, and J. and J. Sutherland we disposed of 687 cross-breds at from 14s to 17s, and 108 merinos at 14s; and on behalf of Messrs. Smith and Vezey of 540 merinos at 7s 3d to 8a 6d. We quote for prime mutton barely 3d, and medium 2§d per lb. Sheepskins. —We cleared a good catalogue with fair competition at our weekly auction on Monday, • pices being well maintained. Butchers' grossbred skins realised up to 4s 7d, and merinos 3s 4d each; station and fullwoolled skins sold at from Is 5d to 4s lid; pelts, 6d. Hides. —Demand unabated at our quotation* of 3£d per lb. for wet-salted, and 20s each for butchers' green hides. Tallow. —We report sales of well-rendered tallow up to 275, and of-rough fat up to ISs per cwt., at which rates there is a fair inquiry. Grain.—Wheat: The demand for medium to prime continues good, but supplies coming to hand are not large. We repeat our quotations of last week, viz. : Prime milling, 3s lOd to 3s lid; medium, 3s 6d to 3s 8d; fowl feed (nominal), 2s 3d to 2s 9d.—Oats : Market continues firm. Good quality milling would fetch Is Cd without difficulty, and fieed oats up to Is 3d for prime ; the latter figure is, however, hardly up to holders' ideas.—Barley : No improvement to report. Three shillings per bushel might be obtained for prime malting samples, but the bulk of this cereal in the market consists of medium quality, for which we cannot quote above 2s 6d, whereat we have made sales daring the week.
